Let's be real
What are your actual thoughts on AI in general?

@Crafted_104 I’m assuming you mean generative LLMs, i.e. those built by stealing creative works and boiling the planet, with the aim of producing third-rate knockoffs…as opposed to the AI used in games, symbolic AI, and even “handwritten” programs which generate algorithmic art.

Whoever funds, makes, promotes, or uses generative LLMs…

  • is an enemy of workers, justice, and life on Earth;
  • is a useful idiot at best, and a morally bankrupt and apathetic person at worst;
  • and (channeling my inner Tieria Erde here) deserves ten thousand deaths for it.

@contrapunctus @Crafted_104 You gotta see the delusion of people who think LLMs will be some great invention that will redefine human lives. Also came across folks who don’t know shit about software fight with me in person that it’s going to replace all programmers. Often, I notice that people who back LLMs are people who don’t know shit about what they’re doing in the first place.

@contrapunctus @Crafted_104 I'm not an expert on the subject. I haven't researched it properly yet. But I was wondering... practically all actual LLMs are ethically awful, but the technology itself is interesting and, in theory, could do some good things, no?

@thevril @Crafted_104 Maybe. That’s why I’ve outlined specific criticisms, and (by extension) listed the properties of an ethical LLM -
