Really disappointed in #Debian after seeing this:
For a while I thought the 'neutral' policy they chose would truly be neutral, but of course not. This is a testimony to the fact that more often than not, the 'neutral' policy practically is skewed towards using more and more of LLMs. I'd rather have them just be honest from the get go and say they're vibe coders who want to use such SaaS like every other techbro.
Also, the service that's sponsoring this (Scaleway) touts itself as "Sovereign European AI" and doesn't even have Apertus.
@divyaranjan It's optional honestly and that service was developed by someone who's been very pro-LLM from the start. This is not an official stance by the whole project.
It's a debian.net project not debian.org. .net is used for running community/experimental projects and .org is only meant for official infrastructure. This site linked here is not an official core part of the project.
The LLM policy also vaguely defines what "responsible" is, so by design this is allowed.

@hillu Of course. I'm aware there are many Debian devs that absolutely are against this, I am in general just disappointed in the overall direction Debian is headed towards

Just a note that any of a thousand Debian Developers can register a name under the `debian.net` domain, and that's the extent to which the Debian project endorses whatever is hosted under there. Debian project infrastructure is hosted by the Debian System Administrators under `debian.org`.
