Keychron K3 Ultra with Keychron Milky POM Banana switches, first impressions.
Very muted sound, quite nice. Feels less low-profile than K3 Max. Wooden accent and USB interface on the left is a bit weird. Switch matches high profile banana switch to some extent - what you would expect.
USB interface is a bit wild, so needed to upgrade Deskhop to a newer firmware that understands it.
Funny that this keyboard is running on Zepyhr (ZMK). Is this the future and QMK a thing of the past?
OK it seems the shift state is perhaps a bit stickier than I would like. I just type very fast and the shift button gets stuck for two letters when I try to capitalize the first one only.
I hope both can converge, at the moment wired configs live in QMK and wireless in ZMK IIRC, so I use the two
(I packaged the qmk tool in Debian, not zmk yet)
@gagath That is not really accurate though, ZMK is an entirely separate firmware based on Zephyr, permissively licensed.
@juliank QMK is an excellent project and will continue to be the only one of those two that will target 8-bit Atmel microcontrollers that have to emulate USB connectivity. QMK also has richer MIDI and stenography protocol support, and probably will for a few more years.
But the ZMK codebase is much cleaner, has a better build system, offers easier ways of defining keymaps, and its interrupt based design means it's in an entirely different class in terms of power efficiency.
I like 'em both.
@gnomon can I rewrite everything again in Rust and call it RMK
Jokes aside. QMK does have much more denouncing flexibility
@juliank I'm not entirely sure whether you're joking...
edit: ah, interesting note about the debouncing support. Not something I've had to fiddle with but good to know there's an additional feature gap there. ( @petejohanson , is this on your radar already?)
@gnomon lmao
