Here's a riddle: can a conversion between two lossless image formats be lossy?
In other words, can converting directly from lossless format A to lossless format B cause changes to the bitmap, so that converting back from B to A would result in a different bitmap? I'm not talking about metadata changes here.

It's certainly possible if the granularity of the two formats is not the same; e.g., if you're converting from lossless 96kHz audio to lossless 48kHz audio, you'll still have lost some data.
