Internet weirdo, F/OSS enjoyer, Debian Culter, pursuing a degree by day, spending my nights sleepless :p; feel free to reach out, and have a great day!

I deactivated Google Play on my phone. The electricity company app was the first to be bricked. 'You must update.'

I wrote to them: ’I don’t have Google or Apple. Where else can I update the app?’ Nowhere else, they replied.

I wrote (politely) back: ’I can’t use your app any more then. It’s an odd requirement to make of your customers. A Norlys customer can only access all Norlys services if they are also a customer of one of two specific private for-profit US companies.’

Phone screenshot. A wall of white. A cartoon of a worker in overalls with various tools by a ladder. Below that (my translation from Danish) 'You must update the app. We require you to update the app so that we can give you a good app experience.' At the bottom, a purple button 'Get update'. But if you press it, it only links to Google Play, which I have deactivated, so I can't update.

Did you know that most Android apps also work as a distributor and thus can easily replace apps like (recently became vibe-coded) for this? Find our tutorial here: https://joinjabber.org/tutorials/service/unifiedpush/

It's International Women's Day, so when you see people zooming by on electric scooters, I remember Lady Norman and her autoped. She was a suffragist who insisted on being mobile without manly "protection" :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Priscilla_Norman

(UPDATE: Yes, many men in the replies. The autoped used a combustion engine, I know. My post is however NOT about the autoped, it's about the woman standing on it. I know, that's really hard for some of you to deal with. :)

@Theorem_Poem my experience when telling people to choose a fedi server or xmpp server "please express yourself how you like" and people are just stunned by how does one do that more than in usernames but also in their server choices

Every time I read headline news
Oh fuck what now

Once again, International Women's Day has fallen on the same day as the start of Daylight Saving Time, because for every day a man earns, a comparably-qualified woman only earns 23 hours.

@reece Google does have its limitations, but fuelling a few dozen students hitting google requires the computing power ... of a phone, and the reliability of the response can be determined from the website the data is from, if google leads me to "conspiracyhub.org" for my question, I know not to trust it. any LLM will require a small data centre for those requests, and will lie if I ask it leading questions, and will then lie if I choose to call it out in the same url.

@fugata I remember seeing this meme which was a trans fox in the morpheus pose with Estrogen pills captioned "everyone has a natural cup size, wouldnt you like to know yours"

A.I. musicians are COOKED. I just recorded an ENTIRE SONG using nothing but my instruments and a few microphones. This would have cost upwards of hundreds of dollars in expensive A.I. subscription fees but for me it was completely FREE. Don't get left behind. This is the future!

I love how vibecoded commits are called vommits. It's so perfect.

I found $20 in a parking lot, and I thought to myself, what would Jesus do?
So I turned it into wine.

just started keeping a ledger journal and hey maybe i can keep my finances in check?! (check back and ask me in a week why I am financially desolate, ill do a quick ledger -f main.ledger bal)

Every Saturday this month (March), we’ll be listening to builders from the Indian FOSS ecosystem as part of the @fossunited FOSS Hack 2026!

our patience has been rewarded

@reece @urbanmv personal experience, in my undergrad program while waiting for our written finals, I have now seen people heavily "looking up" and getting generation on basic facts like it is google itself, and studying with LLMs without ever fact checking once. My program at my college has some hundred students, this isnt really an unheard of experience from everyone else I have talked to, I dont think most people do know of the "limitations".

why do some people (especially in academia) use the author's last name first when quoting or referring works? in #india, it reveals too much about their background. people with last names have social constructs like caste, religion, family names, parent's name (usually the father in heteronormative relations) in the name.

WRITING PRO TIP: set your Character Edge Style to Depressed to write depressed characters more accurately happypete
youtube subtitle display settings submenu "Character edge style", the currently selected option is "Depressed", alongside the other options "None", "Drop Shadow", "Raised", and "Outline"

i swear like mainstream GenX and boomers don't understand that people actually like providing their time and services free of charge in order to help people and make them happy

there is an insane anti volunteer push in my area at the moment and its fucking weird
