The EFF is really unhappy about our GNU government. (just had to put that out there to confuse people not in the know :p)
@dzu Oof, this frankenbuild continues to evolve, here's some story just about the XTA disk (the only one that I know of working in an XT currently) that I have in there: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=100178
Giving up on fighting with postfix for the evening. Perhaps my old convoluted email setup that depended on things like sshfs and ssh tunnels isn't so bad after all.
@Toxa Wow that is rough :(

@w7voa They don't want anyone to flee to Egypt, they want to annihilate them.
@LALegault even Zuma is back on the ballots in South Africa. The world is fucked YOLO.
@revk Also, I suppose that if a ship is your flagship, it probably makes sense to just have one of them out in the field at a time. Also, Star Trek is full of holes, it's easy to overthink things :)
@revk Ah, well. there's a few jokes throughout star trek about the excessive amounts of ship that Starfleet produced, so 1700 might not even be a lot in that context.
@revk So what would you rather expect? Two ships named Enterprise at the same time? Eg Enterprise 1 and 2? Or that they would sooner obsolete perfectly fine ships?
@revk Yes and? There were many many thousands of ships made after that and inbetween the other Enterprises? So where's the lul?
@revk What do you mean? They only replaced the Enterprises after one of them were destroyed or became obsolete.
@olasd In Gans Baai South Africa

Oh yes, this is that universe where Roy Orbison, Cyndi Lauper and Celine Dion all performed "I drove all night".

@foone So... he saw the correct side of your laptop?
Here's the XTA card, I couldn't find any reference on it on the Internet at all. My best guess is that it comes out of a Twinhead XT clone, since similar riser cards were found in later Twinheads with similar serial numbers. The jumpers can select at which address the ROM should be available. I happened to read a doc that mentioned that XTA disk roms should be loaded at C800. I wouldn't even thought of trying to adjust for that, and the original AMIBIOS doesn't display this address like GLaBIOS!

Today I had the day off and played a bit with an XT build I've been working on. I found an XTA (like ATA but for an XT) controller in a friend's dumpster, and even found a compatible drive in my garage.
Impressively, GLaBIOS (the open source XT BIOS) even lists the drive while it boots (I don't think there are many people at all that uses this configuration out there).
Here's a little video of it booting up. Next it will get FreeDOS, then I'll have an XT with a free BIOS and free OS!
