sigh, got the next open hardware idea already: a fully open-source /open hardware PCIe WiFi card built around the BL602 IC. I should finish my current project first though.

@mirabilos ja, Bayern halt.

I saw someone reply to a slop email: ai;dr

I love it. Lets normalize ignoring all slop

@navi b) yes c) yes. For b) you need a decent buck converter, I suggest the one from my design. For c) you need a PD trigger chip. Also see my design; there are ones that do fixed voltages only, but you'll want to be variable

Brand new aryl dot org article is now up. We talk about humidity indicators and how they work/try to make some. We got really miserable about it. Read it now on aryl dot org LINK: https://aryl.org/2026/10/30/indicator-silica-misery.html

Hat jemand die Vorlage von diesem Sticker vom 39c3? Mein einziges verbleibendes Exemplar ist nass geworden und nicht mehr als Sticker geeignet...

looks like the AI bubble is bursting in China, meanwhile Alphabet / Google lost $500bn in value, Amazon's stock lost 10% in value, binance and polymarket got hacked, nasdaq is down 2%... is this finally it? can we get rid of AI and the whole tech bubble fucking already?

I am the word witch.
I have the magic.

The men behind the machines keep stealing the spells after they're cast, but they can't recreate the magic because they aren't the source, and no matter how clever they make their machines, they can only steal, not create.

We are the source.
We have the magic.
Don't forget it.

No one is more annoyed by the Al revolution
than people who can actually write a sentence.
Basically, having any ability to write now is
suspect - you will get accused of being Al at
some point. It feels like you are being accused of
being a witch, of holding a type of rare magic
that only the machines are now allowed to have.

@gourd @bandali @josch @chbmeyer @sunweaver with glibc being a de-facto standard (sadly) IMO the only sane way forward is a slop free kernel (NetBSD) with slop free packages (most of Debian stable).
Distros who have an explicit ban on LLM content is good, but that doesn't make a vibecoded Linux disappear.

@josch @sunweaver @bandali @chbmeyer echoing that, Debian is what I feel comfortable with, know how packaging works etc.
We have one of biggest repositories (70k packages), and good policies regarding devendoring, license compliance etc. Another distro does not solve the core issue that Linux is now essentially vibecoded. NetBSD has a strict ban on that, so you know the kernel is at least safe.

@anarchiv looking at the future and current events, it's pretty bleak. Probably continued activism, and caring about people close to me. Hope feels pretty misplaced these days, but deep down I know a better world is possible. With the climate apocalypse looming, part of me hopes we can still go full solarpunk

@bandali @josch @chbmeyer @sunweaver I don't know tbh, it's rather frustrating. APT has an open MR committing LLM-generated tests. gcc's LLM policy I can live with, and dpkg should also be safe. The main hurdle would be porting glibc for NetBSD; on that has happened, you could have at least an LLM-free base system. I wonder if a apt pinning list for affected packages would be reasonable to implement.

Another long day at the long day factory
