Congress is moving quickly on the revised GUARD Act. The bill still requires intrusive age-verification and has massive penalties under vague standards. Tell Congress to oppose it: https://act.eff.org/action/tell-congress-oppose-the-guard-act

So many tech bros are coming at me right now arguing that yes, in fact, Windows users or Facebook users don't deserve privacy.
Busting out the bold markdown for this: you're wrong.
Everyone deserves privacy.
Pleased to share a page and explainer for the AI tarpit project Science is Poetry, with legal statement, rationale(s), and a few deployment notes:

The page may grow a bit. Just wanted to get it out the door.
You still deserve privacy, even if you:
- don't use Linux
- use big social media sites
- aren't "techie"
- are just an average computer user
Hey everyone, we'd like to make a public disclosure to the community about a product currently selling on the PineStore website (pine64.com).
The current Desktop PinePower V2 batch has an issue where in some situations the USB-C ports will report "0V" when there is obviously something attached. In reality it is actually outputting the correct voltage.
This has been fixed for future batches, but the current batch still has stock available. There is no fix available for affected Desktop PinePower V2 batches as the MCU can only be flashed at the factory. We have no ETA when the fixed batch will start production as this depends on the rest of the buggered batch being sold. We'll let you all know when the fixed ones hit the store.
And please don't open your PinePowers as they're high voltage power supplies (dangerous, shocking even!). Hopefully that is obvious to most :)
Thanks!
Canada’s C-22 bill is a surveillance overreach that paves the way to backdoor encrypted communications of users around the world. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/05/canadas-bill-c-22-repackaged-version-last-years-surveillance-nightmare
#Debian security team just released DSA-6253-1 which addresses #dirtyfrag local root escalation which has been issued CVE-2026-43284 and CVE-2026-43500
Youthful me would be shocked at what my reaction has become to even the possibility of a late night out.
A computer science research lab has developed a simulated Canadian and a simulated Scot that can converse with each other.
It’s a breakthrough in Eh Aye.
New privacy report from the Canadian govt on OpenAI:
- OpenAI failed to get consent for scraped data.
- ChatGPT fails accuracy requirements.
- OpenAI fails requirements for personal data deletion.
No.
I'm seeing basically nothing of #RedDressDay in my feed, which surprises me.
Women, girls, 2-Spirit and other individuals from Indigenous nations still disappear or turn up murdered *far* more than any other group in Canada. Much remains to be done, and even knowing about the problem is low-bar Step One. #mmiwg #mmiwg2s
