I know I really should prefer ARM given that it was designed by My People, but I just can't help it:
My favorite processor is 32bit x86

@foone hey, you can do it with ARMs too! you could say that your favourite CPU was the armv7

(edit: this is made on the premise that “32bit x86” is a joke with how vague this statement is. idk if i got this correctly, sorry if not)

@foone It's probably the artist in me but anything that's large, square, purple, and made of a ceramic that goes *clink* has my vote.

The 68040 and 486 are both solid implementations of the platonic ideal CPU.

@NanoRaptor exactly! chips are meant to be BIG and have PINS.

none of this SMD QFN nonsense

@foone @NanoRaptor

This is my idea of peak processor package:

An IBM POWER5 MCM (multi-chip module) with 4 large square POWER5 dual processor chips in the center and 4 smaller rectangular L3 cache chips arranged outside of those. In between the chips are regular rows of small square decoupling capacitors.

@acsawdey @foone I still regret missing out on an ebay auction for one of those that went for $60. It had a chip out of the bottom side of one corner, but otherwise looked beautiful on top.

@foone

6502 for me.

I kinda think favorite processor might be the one a person learned assembly on when they were 17. Like music genre.

@kingrat 6502 would probably be my favorite if I was writing assembly. it's the simplest to fit in my head

@foone @NanoRaptor I kinda loved it when they had bolts on them too.

PA-RISC 7100 and DEC Alpha 21064

@foone
m68k assembly is kinda neat too, actually (and not *as* old as 6502)

@foone Not 16-bit x86? ;)

@lethal_guitar I'm a reverse engineer! I hate reversing segmented code!
