Is it just me or is email federation slowly dying? I've encountered three different organizations this year which require me to have a GMail, Outlook or Yahoo email address in order to RECEIVE emails from them. What's going on?

@fmarier

The problem is if you sign up to some basic help they will help you sign up to e-mail, usually using gmail, as if there is nothing else out there.

The same goes for social media. The fedi is still less known, so people may not create the demand, as most of the people here are probably able to sign up without that much help.

@fmarier I have come across this too, and find it a worrying sign. I am not sure I want to deal with an organisation which is so ignorant of the internet that they think they are helping their users by having a box to enter your username and a dropdown for whether you are (gmail.com, outlook.com, live.com ... - I think there were less than 10).
Almost as alarming to find the number of Universities - who should know better - running their email on MS Exchange.
