one of the easiest things to do for cis men to support trans people is wear nail polish.
It sounds kind of silly but it’s true; like pronouns in your bio this creates a cover not just so trans people don’t have to out themselves (if they don’t want to)
it normalises a very modest form of gender non conformity
it communcates certain a level of safety
and if there’s people that get upset about it, a cis guy is in a much better position to deal with that than a trans or queer person is. Plus we find out who the fuckheads are that we need to avoid.
also uhm, nail polish is fucking awesome you’ll love it.
and if anyone asks you, you can say you’ve been reading the darkhold
@bri_seven grew my nails out and did this last year but then backslid and bit nails. Trying again. Have acquired all the resistor-code colors.
@Unixbigot @bri_seven - You can always go to a salon and get acrylics or gels! Artificial nails of any length! Great for if you bite your natural nails and want them to look fuller. (also may help you to stop biting your nails if thats a goal!)
@bri_seven I've been thinking about changing my pronouns to they/them as well. I feel he/him but I'm not bothered by the pronouns people use for me. I just don't want to be an appropriating dickhead tho
@otfrom @bri_seven - You can always use "he/they" pronouns!
And you're not appropriating anything. They're *your* pronouns.
@bri_seven great suggestion.
What do you think about wearing something in your hair (see avatar) or learning to and wearing fancy braids?

@bri_seven
@TindrasGrove
And it looks super cool!
I never wear nail polish myself (cis woman) but I love seeing fancy nails (long or short!) on anyone!
@cshlan @bri_seven @TindrasGrove I stopped wearing nail polish on my toe nails (old white cis male barefooter) not wanting to draw too much attention.
This post has me reconsider that decision and also consider hand nails. I always like it when I see men wearing such things.
@tinker
@otfrom @bri_seven EVERYBODY gets they/them until provided otherwise. I'm done guessing someone's pronouns (or gender) from their name.
@efraim @otfrom @bri_seven - Yeah that's solid. They/Them is good and fine as a default. When you're presented with different pronouns you switch to those.
@bri_seven this is brilliant! Black nail polish counts right?
It reminds me of using encrypted communication as much as possible to give cover for people who use it to avoid being targeted

@efraim @tinker @otfrom @bri_seven as someone whose name gets mistaken for female in anywhere without a large French speaking population (or adjacent to it) quite often, yes please
