I think it's finally my turn to , especially my German friends.

There's a very high chance (it's almost certain at this point) that I'll have to move to Germany by the end of the year for work. The time has come for me to start looking for an accommodation, but I don't even know where to start.
The job would be in the whereabouts of Düsseldorf, and I would like to find a medium-small apartment there, possibly not too far from the city center.

Can you give me some pointers please? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Boosts appreciated.

@miles wg-gesucht.de and https://www.immobilienscout24.de/ are popular sites for finding a flat.

this would be a search for example https://www.wg-gesucht.de/wohnungen-in-Duesseldorf.30.2.1.0.html?offer_filter=1&city_id=30&sort_order=0&noDeact=1&categories%5B%5D=2

in germany we differentiate between Kaltmiete and Warmmiete (rent all exclusive and expected rent with utilities)

Kaltmiete is usually 5-15€ per m², depending on the city and location.

A quick search suggest 12-13€ is normal for Düsseldorf.

To get a contract a Einkommensnachweis (proof of income) and a Schufa Nachweis (a dumb private company which trades with personal data and can vouch u have no bad debt) are common prequisites.

Most germans especially in west germany speak english.

Flats are usually completely empty when u rent them, no kitchen or other things. Bathroom is usable immediately though.

Feel free to ask any specific questions, im not from Düsseldorf though

@miles Perhaps @_rya_ happens to know someone who could help?

@grillchen @miles to add: You can also check kleinanzeigen.de for apartements. Note that once you move you'll have to register with the civil office that you live there now.
