What's your favorite forbidden cable? Found this one in a drawer recently.

A USB SuperSpeed cable with USB-A on both ends, which is not allowed per the USB specification.

@thomasfuchs Don't ask us we will not make one for you

@thomasfuchs I've got a bunch of these, because some older HDD enclosures came with them, and they're used by a HDMI KVM switch I use.

@thomasfuchs I've seen a similar one, with an bulge in the middle. It was sold for PC to PC filetransfer. 😵‍💫
IMHO it was useless crap.

@thomasfuchs
This one has messed me up enough times i should have thrown it away by now

A test cable with alligator clips on one end and banana plugs on the other. There are two wires molded together, one black and one red. The red wire has a red connector on one end and a black connector on the other. The black wire is similarly mixed up except that the wire itself is also half red.

@thomasfuchs this makes me physically unwell…

@thomasfuchs Mine is any power brick that uses a phono jack connector

@thomasfuchs
Mains leads with male connectors on both ends.

@thomasfuchs what's wrong with this cable? Asking for an imaginary person who's presumably even stupider than me.

@thomasfuchs The Etherkiller

An Ethernet cable to three prong electrical plug

@thomasfuchs For me: male-to-male US outlet plugs

@thomasfuchs
Somewhere I've got one of those but with two USB plugs wired in parallel at one end..

@thomasfuchs I have one of those!

@DLink @thomasfuchs WHY IS THIS A THING???

There's a distinct possibility this will fry a whole lot more than the ethernet bus...

@nazokiyoubinbou @DLink @thomasfuchs That’s POE+++++++++++++

@Mpwg @nazokiyoubinbou @DLink 1650W PoE, nice

@thomasfuchs
What's the penalty, Thomas, if we're caught with one of these cables?

@werdahias @thomasfuchs
Yikes! Those things can kill electrical line workers if they are used wrong

@thomasfuchs "SS" for "Super Sus"

@thomasfuchs The original Archos jukebox used something like this if I remember correctly.

@thomasfuchs
I actually had one of those a long time back for an external 2.5" drive caddy.
The circuitry inside failed right at the same time as the cable frayed.
