skimming the debian release notes and "for a total count of 69,830 packages," nice

huh i386 is no longer a supported platform

@tef wow, not surprising I guess. I see armel is done after this release too.

@mattl yeah, i just feel that appreciable bit older

@tef I wonder if there’s any thought given to a potential Debian > NetBSD installer for stuff that is no longer supported.

@tef it was a Really Big Deal of a decision

@whitequark @tef didn’t the kernel just drop support for 486’s

@c0dec0dec0de @tef the userspace (in a typical distro) hasn't had support for 486's for a really long time; we've built everything for at least i686 for over a decade

i386 going away is more "end of a segment" than "end of an era"

@whitequark @tef yeah, a decade ago I worked somewhere and we were briefly perplexed by a client who wanted i686 binaries for our crappy software, but they hadn’t ever told us that before delivery

@c0dec0dec0de @tef iirc, as a result of the Big Deal part, debian still supports i686 for multiarch specifically, so that you can run old games. unless they changed that since i looked

@whitequark @c0dec0dec0de @tef still possible and pretty much the only reason it's kept around
