Horrified to hear the news out of Utah about Charlie Kirk. Violence is never the answer. Our differences, however vast, must be settled peacefully. Period.

@georgetakei
No, no, no! Such twat have no place among us. They deserve to go back to oblivion.

@georgetakei Why feel sorry for getting what they enable and push onto the public?

@georgetakei How many slave populations have been freeed peacefully? Asking for American slaves, Haitian slaves, and women trafficked for sex.

@georgetakei that is oppressor talk. Every minority in the world is suffering under violence. They should stand up against it.

@georgetakei

Meanwhile Jefferson County law enforcement in Colorado confirmed that at least two students were shot at Evergreen High School on Wednesday.

And nobody is going to talk about them.

@georgetakei That's absurd. Of course sometimes violence is the answer. Like when Putin is at war with Ukraine, Ukraine's answer is to fight back, not shout reasonable things at Russia and cross their fingers. This man was a fascist propagandist for the undemocratic regime, acting in cahoots with foreign adversaries, against America, Democracy, freedom and the Constitution. It isn't just our right, but our duty to defend it. We have no govt or military to appeal to.

@georgetakei Unfortunately Charlie Kirk didn't want peace, he wanted to incite hatred and violence against minorities...

@georgetakei you're absolutely right but gun violence happens in your country every day. Every day innocent people are killed and wounded by gun violence. Those people deserve our sympathy. Kirk, on the other hand, stated himself that some deaths by gun violence are an acceptable price to pay. Not even his death is acceptable, but he doesn't deserve any sympathy.

@georgetakei „He who sows the wind shall reap the whirlwind“

@georgetakei they weren't

@georgetakei If he dies, he’s a martyr. If he lives, he’s a ‘hero’. No one wins this scenario.

@georgetakei
I hate that anyone was shot, even smarmy, flaming hypocrites like Charlie Kirk. Oh, and Trump sends empty prayers.

Did the President hear that two students were shot today, as well? Evergreen High School, in Colorado.

Does Mr. Trump have any thoughts for them, or is that more of a 'meh' moment for him? He always seems selective that way.

Trump post on TruthSocial:
We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!

@georgetakei George, it’s nice to know he is resting in peace instead of taking the United States of America down.

@georgetakei
Hmm, our constitution allows us to use armed forces to fight fascism and opponents of the free, democratic basic order. 🤔

Maybe that's why it has a problem in the US.

Peacefully turning the other cheek to fascists time and again, while they commit acts of violence day after day, cannot be the solution.

Of course, assassinations of this kind are certainly not helpful at all, because they play into the hands of the administration. But successful, nonviolent resistance is becoming increasingly unlikely.

@georgetakei You're a good man, George. And a much better human being than I am.

@georgetakei No, sorry, can't agree there George, people who promote violence against another group deserve to feel some of that back, that's the only way they learn. If they die in the process, well, so be it, it becomes a lesson for other pieces of shit like them that what goes around, comes around. They behave the way they do because they don't understand that there are consequences for being a piece of shit. Now, they do...

@georgetakei no. I’m sorry. We’re staring down into a deep pit of fascism. I’m not horrified.

@georgetakei I'm not gonna pretend that I think it's a bad thing.

@georgetakei

That evil man choose his actions and now he reaped the consequences.

I will celebrate the death of EVERY bigot.

@georgetakei He wasn’t killed by a left or right person. He was killed by a gun owner, an angry gun owner that had a moment where he lost control of themselves. A gun owner is who killed.

@georgetakei And while not much is known about the murderer. I think it’s safe to say banning trans persons from owning guns would’nt have helped this shooting.

@georgetakei
"Our differences, however vast, must be settled peacefully. “

While a very laudable aim, it requires both parties to a)want to settle their differences and b)want to do it peacefully.

And it cannot perpetually be left to the left to behave with equanimity and restraint.

@georgetakei We can condemn it and also disagree with the decision to honor him with a half mast flag in the U.S. because of the person he was, we can condemn that someone killed a U.S. Democratic politician and it was ignored by Republicans but this wasn't, we can condemn Trump's current attempts to stoke violence against his political opponents... And we can recognize that the likely reason it happened was because someone thought he would never be held accountable otherwise.

@georgetakei violence is sometimes the answer. People who promulgate violence, however they might wrap it up as free speech, as a valid response to those whose lives and opinions they abhor deserve no better treatment than they would accord to those they vilify.
