Editing on the iPad is so much fun! Maybe for a future side quest, I’ll finally brush up on the standard annotations.

A forthcoming article for my personal website shown as a PDF document on an iPad screenshot, with numerous messy red scribbles on top for proposed changes.

@db which app? I did a copy edit of a book with acrobat once. It was a little clunky.

@jmtd This is a webpage saved as PDF into Files. Opened from there, the pencil can make annotations even without entering Markup mode, and the scroll works normally (1 finger). Don’t remember if that was always the case, but it works well now (iPadOS 26)

What’s fun but frustrating but ultimately rewarding in a “solving the cryptic crossword” way, about reading specs is they tend to be terse, cross-referential rather than repetitive, and with intentional, precise, and subtly, surprisingly load-bearing wording.

@db _if_ they're well written ;)

@drj I just hope having nerd-sniped myself into deciphering HTTP caching by reading the thing N times over will prove to have been worth it, even if to stave off dementia.

@db awesome to know, thanks!
