Ok, & geeks:

So, I use a combination a Firefox plugin & server settings to make sure all replies of threads I'm reading get downloaded for me to my local instance. Works great *except* it's really hard to keep track of what I read already & what I didn't. I just end up reading the whole thing over & over.

What I'd love is a way to “subscribe” (i.e., “follow a thread”) & have any reply on the thread put into my timeline.

Is there such a thing?

@bkuhn Not sure if this is what you mean, but there's a related open Mastodon issue (subscribe to post replies, get notifications): https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/7969

I'm not aware of any existing solutions. Mastodon v4.5 should auto-fetch all replies to a thread, though, in case you have missed it: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/11/mastodon-4.5/

@nen Yup, if added as a feature, that issue would give me what I'm looking for.

I have all the auto-fetch stuff turned on (masto.host does it for all users now), and I also use substitoot which does it faster on the client side for real-time reading.

Another solution that would help me would be "mark post as read" feature.

@bkuhn
I get notifications on my @apps app that's installed on my phone whenever someone replies to (or likes, or boosts) one of my posts...

Not sure which Firefox plugin you use, but this works for me
