Now officially shopping for an organization, ideally in Canada but absolutely out of US jurisdiction (Europe OK), to provide Web & DNS support. We have a few mostly-dormant WordPress blogs and static sites, a bunch of identity-supporting DNS records, and that's about it. Nothing very high-traffic, should be an easy ask. Would prefer something that demonstrates resilience and stability by having been around a few years.

@timbray I’m with @beasts and I think they’re good, and in the UK.

@timbray For static sites we've been happy with hosting ours co-op's site on https://www.statichost.eu

@timbray you want @ubernauten if I read the ask correctly. Been a customer there for >10 years with five accounts for various projects and friends and have not had any complaints. Just no DNS.

@timbray I have been happy with OVH for 20 years

@timbray ah. We started in 2000 and are still run by the founding team which is significantly more than a few years. Will lots of years do?

@timbray These folks have been around for a while. I'm told the support is good https://www.fullhost.com/

@beasts @timbray I’ll vouch for Mythic. They’re well-regarded in the Debian UK community.

@sil @timbray @beasts Another vote for Mythic Beasts

@timbray I've used grape.ca for a few years now, happy with their service.

@sil @timbray @beasts
Endorsed! Happy customer for years.

@timbray hover for dns

@timbray had been looking and was kind of settling on @beasts also, but this thread has convinced me.

@timbray I referred to this list, which you may find useful: https://european-alternatives.eu/

@timbray easyDNS has been around since 1998 and is based out of Ontario. I’ve used them for just DNS for 20+ years but I know they host as well.

@timbray I use both hetzner (DE) and leaseweb (NL). Leaseweb is a little more expensive but pretty robust. Hetzner is easy to set up. Both have non US owners and data centers outside of North America.

@timbray I have been using Infomaniak (Swiss) for several years now; no complaints!

@timbray We have been using EasyDNS for over a decade. Their Domain and DNS service is very solid. Their support is staffed by actual technical people. Their web hosting is pretty decent for basic web hosting. The are based out of Toronto.

@timbray sorry, what are you asking for? Someone to "ssh -t somehost vi /var/lib/named/db.cososial.ca" ??? I use easydns.com as my Registrar, and they will host your DNS zones, anycast them if you want, and it even says they do Managed Wordpress. They are in Kitchener, ON last I looked... says Etobicoke now.

@timbray when @clipperz has done its move 13 years ago (https://clipperz.is/blog/2013/12/28/leaving-the-us/) we went for https://1984.is and never looked back (registration and DNS wise). Highly suggested.

@timbray I had the same goal recently and saw positive reviews for https://www.rebel.com/.

They're based in Ottawa.

@wiredfire @sil @timbray @beasts

I'm with Beasts too and can recommend them without reservation.

@kdawson @wiredfire @sil @timbray @beasts but in the UK isn't that age verification shite happening? Is it really the best jurisidiction?

@hub @kdawson @wiredfire @timbray @beasts I don't know. Tim asked for somewhere outside the US, and in my experience Mythic Beasts are technically competent and respectful of technical competence in their customers, which I imagine would appeal, and they are outside the US. I don't know whether the UK is also best avoided -- in particular, I don't know how all the online safety act rubbish applies to services in the UK used by people outside, 'cos I'm here already and can't change that :)
