I had high hopes for rust tui's to let me use my 32-bit laptops for a very long time but the arbitrary high rust versions for some programs make this harder and harder.
I just wanted to write some nice things on this because this barely survives a web browser but deals very well with i3 and Debian but welp, this is turning into a chore.
Not sure what I was complaining about, I can just rustup update and still get epic tui apps. Which will take all evening but that is something I brought upon myself. I'll do anything to use a tiny 4:3 with the full modern Internet as much as I can. It can do fedi btw!
@sophie144p beautiful machine!
... and i'm sure there will be some crazy enthusiast distros still out there for those machines.
we already have a bunch of awesome people maintaining Linux for obscure stuff like 32bit PowerPC and I'm sure this'll extend over here.
@manawyrm trueeee thank you that actually makes me hopeful.
@sophie144p I think regular Debian should also work right now, they just stopped providing CDs, so installing debian 12 and upgrading to 13 should work fine.
altough debian 14 might get tricky already. but let's see, it's still years in the future.
@sophie144p i also just have a heart for beautiful old thinkpads: https://chaos.social/@manawyrm/113714077000897231

@manawyrm oooh nice,,, here's a picture of my bigh 4:3 the R50e and a size comparison to a T470 to show how smol the X40 is (while having way the same amount of keys)
@sophie144p You inspired me to look into some new podcast, thanks for that!
@phantasus yay I'm glad! It's an awesome podcast I love it. Comfy + I get to find new indie games that I'll probably like
