I am slowly thinking of ending this "AArch64 desktop" experiment.

Planned to go for a year but recent "Fence fallback timer expired on ring vcn_dec_0" flood from amdgpu makes me reconsider.

This message means "dropped 343 of 350 frames" when watching youtubbe video.

@hrw πŸ˜• - I periodically check the reports on Linux on Aarch64 laptops, but tbh, neither MacBooks nor the aarch64 ThinkPads seem to be where I would want them to be as my primary device either.

@mxk I used M1 Pro based Macbook with Fedora Linux. Worked fine but to use Thunderbolt Dock I had to put USB hub between laptop and dock.

Not waiting for Linux/AArch64 laptops. Not anymore.

20 minutes after reboot I got it again.

Fuck.

@hrw meanwhile, all my arm machines: omg yes i got a working keyboard, and a display. gnome won't start, but it would be too slow and i got gnu screen πŸŽ‰

sure, i needed 20 years of unix experience to install debian, a couple of things in dtb upsets various drivers, a different set of errors on each upgrade, some of it might be responsible for wifi not working.

but i got a shell \o/

@lkundrak what you describe is set of reasons why I abandoned SBC (Seriously Broken Computers) market.

@hrw This Asus Snapdragon laptop has me pretty pleased - I've not tried video playback yet; but the only actually annoying bug at the moment is the video camera only works once.

@hrw
That's not encouraging.

What hardware are you using?
