Seems I ordered a Midea PortaSplit, a portable split AC. I can put the outdoor unit on the balcony!

I wish we had a proper AC installation

I have a single unit portable AC in the bed room that I bought in 2020 which is already doing a good job with that room.

But the other one can cool the living room, idk.

This shit is getting more important each year, not just for temperature but also humidity.

Yesterday I had like 70% humidity at 20.5°C while it was 31°C outside.

@juliank i wish we had those in the US. i don't know why they won't sell them here.

@ariadne I think this boils down to electricity. These things suck 3500W or 2800W I believe for the small one (12k/8k BTU).

So you'd need to do special 230V outlets near windows/doors and then you can just do real AC?

@ariadne there's also smaller camping units that I'd be curious about installing in the small rooms though which don't suck that much power, but I suppose you have those in the US?

@juliank nope, we don't have portable minisplits of any kind here. i converted a portable AC into a quasi-minisplit by modifying it with a computer water pump

@ariadne 🤯

that is a clever solution, we modify portable AC by gluing shoeboxes to the air intake and then routing a 2nd huge tube outside for the fresh air intake path.

Why don't I ask my landlord about installing a proper AC?

Of course they would have to go fight with the other apartment owners since the house walls are owned by the owner community, and that can be troublesome.

Neighbours will normally complain and vote against it because of noise concerns; and they're already fighting over a water leak in my ceiling / the neighbour's roof top.

@juliank
For humidity, a dedicated dehumidifier is more efficient.

I have a portable aircon, but its water reservoir is fairly small yet takes days to fill up.

In the same room, the dedicated dehumidifier fills up its much larger reservoir in a single day, and it uses about 200W at most to do so.
