@mjg59 That’s quite an accomplishment

@mjg59 I wish I'd written the phrase "a labyrinthian prolixity of unrelated and vituperative charges that defied comprehension". I'm going to see if I can get it into an internal email at some point.

(For those lacking context - a former Debian Developer attempted to sue a number of individuals and organisations, and the case was dismissed with leave to amend his complaint. He did so, and it has just been dismissed again)

He has the right to appeal, but due to the assertion that any appeal would not be taken in good faith, he is required to pay the relevant fees rather than being able to do so for free

Screenshot of text reading:

"The Court certifies under 28 U.S.C. § 1915(a)(3) that any appeal from this order would not be taken in good faith, and therefore IFP status is denied for the purpose of an appeal. See Coppedge v. United States, 369 U.S. 438, 444-45 (1962)."

This is what happens when you don't file a good lawsuit

@mjg59 turns out lawyers are useful after all

@mjg59 I was a bit confused to see Cardinal Pell mentioned in there. I checked the complaint filing, and now I'm even more confused.

@nicolas17 @mjg59

Just wait a bit longer and we'll learn that his lawyer was named "Gemini" or "Claude" :D

@mjg59 I opened the blog of this person and now I need to take a shower.

@mjg59
Do you have a link to all the documents in the case? I tried searching on their search form but can't find it.

I believe I'm named in the case too (using incorrect address information), and would like to confirm.

@mjg59 Free Software really does bring out all the nutjobs

@agowa338 @nicolas17 @mjg59 Oh I'm pretty certain that this particular plaintiff is capable of labyrinthian prolixity that defies comprehension all by themselves - they've been at it for a long time.

@cjwatson @nicolas17 @mjg59

but 525 pages worth of labyrinthian prolixity?

If that was written without an LLM then that's a quite impressive skill. That would even outperform a lot of politicians.

@agowa338 @nicolas17 @mjg59 Oh yes. Oh yes.

@mjg59 my best guess was that the goal was not to sue, though it's hard to guess what it might have been

@mjg59 @wouter achievement unlocked : my picture in a US court document 😅

@wouter @mjg59 ... oh _him_ yeah, I'm just going to perform self-care and not read the actual details

@mjg59 oof, that looks like the result of mental illness more than anything else 😢

@mjg59

Dude needs a good counsellor, I know one called Eliza.

@mjg59 I hope he receives and accepts the help he clearly needs

For anyone having trouble understanding that phrase, here are some useful translations…

@jamesh @mjg59 Plaintiff's cousin, who plaintiff met once or twice a month, was in Pell's choir, with AFAICT no allegation that Pell abused cousin. This has given plaintiff valuable insight into a different kind of alleged abuse because... reasons?

@agowa338 @cjwatson @nicolas17 @mjg59 Certainly yes. Like the USENET kooks of old, able to produce basically unlimited volume once they get started.

@denisbloodnok @agowa338 @nicolas17 @mjg59 Exactly. Much of their blog post material is typically copied and pasted from earlier iterations of the same rants; I wouldn't put it past them to have done much the same with court filings.

@mjg59 you are fast becoming my favourite lawfluencer

@mjg59 That is quite the collection of WTF to start the day with...

@corbet @mjg59 at least maybe it will end..

@mjg59 Is this part of the Techrights Cinematic Universe, or its own thing?

@offby1 Its own thing, but with cameos

@mjg59 wild. just wild.

@Anarcat
I gave up hope on that a long time ago...

@mjg59 @offby1 “plaintiff, who is proceeding *pro se*” okay I am going to want to stay for the post-credits scene on this one aren’t I

@glyph @offby1 This is well into the extended universe

@glyph @mjg59 @offby1 If it had all worked, he would have more than $32 billion, so I guess it seemed worth a shot.

That would include $1 billion from SPI/Debian.

@jamesh @mjg59 @offby1 congratulations to debian on the enormity of their success
