I really need to stop scheduling meetings (that I have to run) at noon. Or just give up and eat lunch at 11am every day.

Also a collaborator sent me some simulations of the night sky with Reflect Orbital fucking it up terribly and I'd rather cry than have a meeting.

Anyway... I'm planning to sit outside with my laptop and binoculars so I can watch Venus disappear at 1pm at the end of the meeting. Everyone on the call is an astronomer, they'll understand. (Clouds: BEHAVE YOURSELVES)

@sundogplanets
re. your first problem. Cheese and pickle sandwiches I find are a great leveller. You'll be at the 'Date of next meeting' and ignoring AOB before you know where you are

@sundogplanets

“Clouds: BEHAVE YOURSELVES” ;-) Love it !

Damn it's REALLY CLOUDY :(

I'll keep looking up and hoping. That's astronomy in a nutshell, I guess.

@sundogplanets It's not very cloudy here, but I'm completely failing to find the moon and there are a few small clouds it might be hiding behind.

@sundogplanets I just went out to see if I could spot the Moon. Even though I know where to look, I couldn’t spot it. Still a pretty thin crescent and it is only 38° from the Sun. If you are sweeping with binoculars be sure not to sweep up the Sun. Event in 45 minutes.

@sundogplanets I used to put a half hour for lunch in my diary each day in the hope of having a break from meetings, but that didn't stop bosses scheduling meetings for me.

Eventually solved only by resigning from that job.

@sundogplanets

My research advisor was always overbooked and unable to say no to people needing help or advice. I had a 5:30 pm meeting with him twice a week, to discuss my project.

He always ate his lunch during this 5:30 pm meeting. After the meeting, he would bike home immediately, to have dinner with his wife and kids. He always apologized for eating while we talked. He had to get it done so he wouldn't have to tell Annemarie he'd been too busy to eat what she provided for lunch. 🙂

@sundogplanets overcast and raining in Montreal :(

CLOUDS, YOU DID NOT LISTEN TO ME. I'll try again at 2:15.

@sundogplanets

I'm very thankful you mentioned the Moon's oculation of Venus today. Clear skies here in Eastern Ontario. Saw the occultation cleanly, waiting to catch Venus' reappearance. THANK YOU!

@sundogplanets

Wonderful cartoon!

Oh no! Condolences.

If it's any commiseration, I shared this astrophoto with the local astronomers and *nobody* was impressed.

@sundogplanets

Partial solar eclipse ... behind clouds

@sundogplanets But thanks to your posts I got to watch, sorry your sky didn't cooperate

@sundogplanets clouds here too :-/ And the move in front of the Pléiades is happening after the moon sets, so... Nothing to see 🙄

@sundogplanets View from Belgium, just after sunset. Unfortunately, the passes just below here (damn parallax!).

Photo of the evening sky with low and high clouds. A toenail Moon is visible in the center, with Venus very nearby, visible as a bright spot.

@sundogplanets this every time

@sundogplanets I remember watching the 2004 Transit of Venus ... it was quite something. Not as amazing as a Total Solar Eclipse, but for someone who knows a bit about it, it was quite the experience.

For the 2012 transit I watched the forecasts anxiously, but it was clear that we were going to be clouded out. I checked, and checked, and checked, and then at 2am I set out to drive 250 miles to what was the only place in the UK within reach that potentially had some clear sky.

Well ... no.

Sigh.

Making plans for the Mercury transits in 2032 and 2039.

That's what it's like in St. John's, NL.

@sundogplanets

@sundogplanets Same here. Had my camera ready. NOT happy
