I am looking for an open source self hostable solution for managing the "renting" of things like tools, bike etc. with Usermanagement so only approved users can "rent" things. A calender overview when which thing is available and tracking of maintenance, issues with parts etc..
Does this exist?
@sad_electronics inventaire is a thing, but focused on books. https://wiki.inventaire.io/wiki/Main_Page
Probably not the best solution
@sad_electronics let me know if you find after a while that what you seek doesn't exist.
@sad_electronics maybe https://codeberg.org/flohmarkt could be used for it. With small adjustments so it looks less for sale.
hey @temporaerhaus, was that bike sharing software thing that came out of your bubble continued somewhere after the mayor screwed you over?
@sad_electronics KI would try asking on https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/ good chance someone there will know.
@sad_electronics Our local tool library uses a tool called MyTurn. It's not open source unfortunately, but it sounds like it might provide what you need.
@sad_electronics I remember learning about an open-source asset management (which can be self-hosted) called Snipe-IT. While its original intended use is for I.T. department asset tracking, one may be able to configure it for your use case?
They have a live demo on their website so you can explore the interface.
@sad_electronics A local borrow store developed their own web app for inventory management and borrowing, maybe this works for you: https://github.com/leihbase/leihbase
@sad_electronics I’ve found shelf.nu to be the best fit for this kind of thing for me (self-hosted version)

@sad_electronics This sounds alot like Microsoft Meeting Rooms or Resources.
Perhaps a search for an alternative to that will yield some helpful results.
Edit: Libraries have a very similar concept where books are limited and can only be checked out by one person at a time. If this is for a personal project then tools and bikes can be your books!
@sad_electronics just to be sure, that would be just a self hosted solution that you look for or is there software that directly integrates in to federation and let some servers see while anonymus is forbidden/empty.
No suggestions, but interested.
@sad_electronics Commonbooking is a plug-in for WordPress that has this goal. Was invented for sharing cargo bikes, might not be the best fit if it's used for many other smaller things but works surprisingly good
