You’re caught on the spot and offered $1000 per correct word if you recite any existing piece of text you know - accumulating up to the point you make your first mistake.
How much do you walk away with?
depending on the headspace you catch me in, i'm walking away with at least $20,000, maybe as much as $150,000, no matter what.
if a digit of pi is a word i'll take the safe $71,000, and if song lyrics count i have a decent shot at a million
my best bet if song lyrics aren't allowed might just be בראשית פרק א but i think i would definitely make a mistake by halfway through, i would be surprised to get $200,000
@NanoRaptor The neurons I dedicated to the Holy Hand Grenade sketch are among the few still working from 50 years ago
@NanoRaptor $90k. There appear to be 90 words in the intro to Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds before the first music piece begins
@NanoRaptor
63,000 if i can bust out O Canada.
[recites Jabberwocky perfectly]
"None of those are words, doesn't count. You get NOTHING!"
@NanoRaptor Probably ~$21K? They made us memorize either the Gettysburg Address or “O Captain My Captain” in eighth grade. I chose Gettysburg and I think I’d probably get to “dedicated” before I bunged it up.
Alternatively, I can recite all the words to Mr Weebl’s “Badgers” and it doesn’t ever end. So if that counts… infinite money?
@bytex64 @NanoRaptor 80 words in the first verse of "the star spangled banner"...
@NanoRaptor There was a time when I could recite with high confidence the complete text of the movie Willow. But that was a long time ago.
@biogeo @NanoRaptor I have the full script of the movie Flow memorized
@NanoRaptor 99 beers on the wall, 99 beers on the wall…
:)
@NanoRaptor $8K
I was there the day Horus slew the Emperor
@NanoRaptor zero, I do not believe in money
@NanoRaptor I shall not embarrass myself, but I shall mention the collection "Other Men's Flowers", which is the poetry that Wavell and others could remember when they were in the trenches.
@NanoRaptor The first thing that came to mind was the first 21 words of Hamlet's "to be or not to be" soliloquy (which is weird, because I don't think I've actually read or seen the play performed, I'm probably remembering it from Star Trek, either Data or Picard). Then I figured a song should be a lot easier, but my mind suddenly went blank. I *should* be able to get through a good chuck of Bohemian Rhapsody, but I suddenly couldn't think of how it even starts. 😭
Well, $21k isn't bad, right?
@NanoRaptor I mean, I can do the first part of the Family Guy “Wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube man!” sketch because it’s literally that 3 times.
@NanoRaptor knowing the Stallman copy pasta is apparently worth 448k in this scenario, although knowing myself, half is probably realistic as its likely id mess up somewhere around half way
@NanoRaptor The two things that immediately sprang to mind:
- There was movement at the station
- I like big butts and I cannot lie
@stibbons hell yeah Banjo would net me over a million too.
Do you lose everything when you make the first mistake or is that just the payout point? Would be a big difference 🙂
