I feel that most people's internet experience is not like ours.
@jamesb had I not met people on the internet as a teen, I would have had zero friends for a solid 2-3 years of my life.
@Theorem_Poem I'm still friends with people I met 30 years ago on the BBS scene.
@Theorem_Poem completely unrelated but got reminded of this in a lecture I attended today (thanks @rohini for being a speaker and bringing it to my attention) but missing out on that time, it felt so strange connecting with stories of meeting people with such similar experiences over the border, and of other people interacting with them, it feels like its harder now to communicate with people so close, in space and experience, yet so distant
