@debian More reasons to make it real clear that any code used for Debian needs to be vetted on all levels, whether generated or created by humans. CERN works with data which simply can't be subject to errors introduced by a hallucinating program.

Do you believe, we, i.e. @debian, had time and energy to check all upstream code for potential bullshit?

We are more than 1000 people, but most of us working on #Debian in our spare time, i.e. after work or on our weekends. Ask my #cat, how often I neglect him!

We try our best to check packages using various C/I tools and eventually we're getting better at it, but we can't check all code. It was not possible before #LLMs, and it's less likely today.

I understand the anger towards the decision, but the decision boils down to:

"Regardless of your code's source, you're responsible for it and what it does. This machine has no brain, so use yours. If you don't you're the one at the end of that rope".

To be fair, from your description I'm guessing it was a fly-by-night operation looking to grab some quick cash and then disappear, stiffing all the contractors in the process.

If my intuition is correct, then AI isn't the reason they disappeared without paying you. They'd have still done that even if AI didn't exist. AI was just a means to an end; the latest tool in the shyster's toolkit.
