People who are staying at their lover's homes that evening. People who've been shopping on their lunch break and turned them on to test. People whose devices don't have travel locks, so sometimes turn on by accident. People whose bluetooth devices are none of your fucking business.

I once went to a BBC recording with a few butt plugs in my backpack because I was going to someone's house for shagging after the show. When security did the bag scan/search I told them 'just so you know there are some sex toys in there' and they looked at me like I was weird but... they're butt plugs, not knives. No one's gonna be harmed by me carrying these things in my bag.

@girlonthenet Most GotN post I've read so far this week! Bravo :)

Keep it up (so to speak.)

@girlonthenet ok but "none of your fucking business" shouldn't be broadcasting a signal at *work*.

@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk is it work's business which headphones you keep in your bag? Speakers? Watches? We all carry quite a lot of connected devices. Unless there's a specific rule against having these turned on... why does work get to audit them?

@girlonthenet you think it's private because it's invisible to you, but a broadcast signal isn't private. "I can't see it so it doesn't exist" is how most people operate about wireless protocols around tech, and it's something tech folks are in constant despair of making people take seriously.

If you're spamming the world with signal from your wireless headphones, don't be shocked someone who's got a receiver sees the traffic.

@SomeVeganCheeseIsOk @girlonthenet tell me, do you own Meta glasses?

@girlonthenet anything you have that's publicly broadcasting is only as "private" as "everyone just doesn't look at that out of courtesy or laziness". And your IT support has to look for technical support reasons, so yeah, "sex toys broadcasting at work" forces IT to see and know shit they shouldn't have to.

Keep your private stuff at home and away from work. Please.

@girlonthenet Also, I've learned that you can't trust all MAC addresses out there to belong to the manufacturer / device ID that their supposed to be.

@mdione @girlonthenet are you seriously asking me that? Do you think this is some sort of clever "gotcha" to play find the spy or some shit? No, fuckface, I don't. I know two visually impaired people who do. So kindly shove your feelings of being superior right up your ass and shit them into your cereal bowl.

@girlonthenet Hear hear.
Seriously, some IT departments are the tech industry’s locker rooms. Too much BOFH and other power trip fantasies during formative years, strong leverage at work with not enough socialization and accountability.

@girlonthenet also: Nothing wrong with a cheeky office wank 🤷

@girlonthenet Also they're in IT, so could entirely be co-workers having fake devices just for fun.

@girlonthenet I find the amount of people acting like looking at the radio spectrum is an invasion of privacy; like you are literally broadcasting that information, lol.

Tho to be fair I wouldn't really give a shit if people had or were using sex toys as long as the work was getting done. Probably would hound on them about it but that's only because I'm a cheeky bastard :p

@spycrab similar arguments are used for taking pictures of people in public spaces and shaming them. Just because you can see this information, doesn't mean you should broadcast it - it's weird and creepy

@girlonthenet Fodder for the blocklist, this one!
