What language do you speak best? (Hypothesis: There are many French & German speakers in the Fediverse.)
Boosts appreciated!
@rauschma "IM SpEaK"
@rauschma@fosstodon.org only allowed for mastodon user, or for the whole Fediverse,?
@rauschma My native language is German but honestly my English is better now than my German (which I almost never use anymore)
@rauschma Other (Dutch), I speak English at near-native level but can't claim actual native-speaker-ness.
@rauschma why? Hundreds of millions speak Spanish, at least, and there are hundreds of other languages in Europe alone.
@fabos You may not see the edit I did a few hours ago: I initially wrote āMastodonā and then changed it to āFediverseā.
@rauschma oy, donāt edit polls, that will lose votes
@mdione Apologies for the silly joke: Iām pretending that āOtherā is a language.
@rauschma ah, I can barely see the emoticon, I can't see what it is or what it's doing :)
@rauschma two reasons you have to take your result with a big grain of salt:
* the question is in English, so many (most?) people that speak those languages might not be able to read it, or even filter out the language entirely.
* even with 1.8k boosts (!!!), you might not reach all the fediverse[1]
* (The Spanish Inquisition reason) not everyone like answering polls :)
@mdione For sure! Itās surprisingly difficult to do surveys well. (But even in failing, I always learn a lot. š)
@rauschma you edited the poll again, removing votesā¦
Itād be very interesting to do a proper survey with a representative sample and an open set of languages!
@rauschma
It can allow more options, but I believe that that has to be enabled by the instance admin.
@rauschma Other: Spanish
@mirabilos My understanding: Editing the text of a post does not change the votes. Thatās what I did. Editing the survey options resets the votes to zero. But I donāt know why you would see vote fluctuations! Maybe thatās about Mastodon versus other Fediverse servers.
@rauschma editig a post can change the votes (Iāve not yet seen rhyme to when it resets to 0), and it arguably should because the edit can make the options mean something else entirely (which your second edit did, soā¦).
I know I had to re-vote twice.
