does firefox not grab idle inhibit when playing (youtube) videos fullscreen?

i've finally set up swayidle and now i'm getting lockscreen'd mid video...

@navi sorry for off topic but I find it interesting that when we use WMs we often end up building a full desktop environment in the end. A panel, a tray, tools like idle checkers, etc.

@justin i mean, yes, but that's exactly what i like about it, i can pick out what i want, what i don't, and from that even mix different tools together

i've seen people not using panels/trays, i personally don't have a "main-menu" esk button that DEs do, nor a power menu, and until today, didn't have an idle checker cuz i didn't feel the need til now

so yeah, it's interesting, but it's also the point

@navi it does inhibit idle for me but im on niri

@illyBytes@shrimp.imsofucking.gay @navi@social.vlhl.dev For some reason I've noticed some DEs work with this and some don't

KDE had a similar issue for a long while, even full screen games would allow the screen to lock if you're playing on controller.

I wish I knew why it's been such an issue these past few years.

@OllieBranch @illyBytes the controller bit makes sense because the game isn't getting controller input via kwin

wayland doesn't implement controller input (yet, protocol mr exists), so games open /dev/input directly; meaning from the compositor's pov you are idle, no keyboard, touch, pointed, nor tablet input, it simply does not see controller input as input, only the game does

@navi

# inhibit idle for VLC and librewolf in fullscreen
for_window [app_id = "librewolf"] inhibit_idle fullscreen
for_window [class = "vlc"] inhibit_idle fullscreen

Pretty much that, hth.

@navi@social.vlhl.dev @illyBytes@shrimp.imsofucking.gay I would think a full screen game would inhibit idle at least, if it were working properly, but I understand wayland not implementing controller input.

I can imagine that problem being either the compositor/DE, or the game (whether native or wine/proton).

Now that I think about it though, shouldn't the compositor be able to detect when a client is fullscreen? Then it could just refuse to idle without really needing to know anything else from the client (if that's the user's preference). Maybe there's something else involved I don't know about.

@OllieBranch @illyBytes i mean, yes, i just did that for sway `for_window [app_id=.*] idle_inhibit fullscreen`

but that's kinda of a hack, and often not really always correct; if i fullscreen something like a kicad window to work on smth, i still expect idle timers to kick in

@navi@social.vlhl.dev @illyBytes@shrimp.imsofucking.gay I might borrow this for my config tbh.

Disabled idle a while ago due to similar issues but this would be a good enough workaround I think.
