Internet weirdo, F/OSS enjoyer, Debian Culter, pursuing a degree by day, spending my nights sleepless :p; feel free to reach out, and have a great day!

Reading recommended readings for finals: keep seeing a recurring name, one U.N. Ghoshal in all of them, and all the works seem to have a very "interesting" opinions, look up the guy, first article is just rebuttal after rebuttal questioning the guy's changes in opinions, decrying his publications as populists, and questioning his writings, I fucking love academia and 70-year-old academic feuds.

Got an email about fraudulent internship offer emails from people outside our college, ... the email had a to: header for everyone in my year of my department.

I wonder where all these people are harvesting people's emails from :0

@jaykass cant let your cool tech silicon valley aesthetics get into the way of your users being able to actually use the god dang website!

@sophie144p we are gathered here today for the eulogy of that ESP, they were not with us for a long time … or a productive time, but for a time yes.

@jaykass they want a "sleeker" more "modern minimalist" look?

@sophie144p waste of an ESP :(

oh also for the public transit nerds who are on xmpp, I now technically administer a MUC:

xmpp:public-transit@muc.xmpp.earth?join

aren’t on XMPP? https://contrapunctus.codeberg.page/the-quick-and-easy-guide-to-xmpp.html a good guide i’d like to say by @contrapunctus

tw: death, auditory hallucinations
had a cup of coffee, hopped in for a bath, put on music, randomly one of the lyric jusy changes to "KILL YOURSELF!" … that was pretty bizzare, maybe I am in fact not a coffee person.

Computer System Architecture final in >24 hours, time to continue procrastinating I would like to think

Friend: So the movie ends by midnight, probably. So you’ll have to get a cab or something-

me: oh so no bus I believe, let me see if I can walk home from there

Friend: you realise it’s in Noida (scary place) yeah?

Me: oh, it’s an hour-long walk, OH! I can skateboard back home

Friend: okay, there is an earlier show we can go to

LET ME LIVE MY DREAMS OF SKATEBOARDING PAST MIDNIGHT THROUGH “SCARY” PARTS OF THE CITY!

@princeofhyrule here me out, all the articles specifically say this isn't a Cali only problem, and only the FEE article speculates "if trends continue" because trends say that this kind of stuff doesn't continue, and that it is already dropping off, the Brookings institute article also talks about this being an overreaction, would you accept that it might be one? yeah there was an uptick, companies over responded, there was no decrease in "thieves" being punished.

@princeofhyrule https://www.brookings.edu/articles/retail-theft-in-us-cities-separating-fact-from-fiction/https://edition.cnn.com/2023/11/17/business/shoplifting-retail-crime-stores/index.html CNN and Brookings saying its made up.

https://fee.org/articles/is-the-shoplifting-epidemic-fake-bad-news-yes-and-no/ here is even the Foundation of Economic Education (a right wing “free market”) article saying that and then in the last paragraph worrying on theoretical.

@princeofhyrule they would want to, they would also want to explain to their stakeholders why it is that they are loosing revenue and not say that people are moving to online shopping and that the industry overexpanded and some stores became unprofitable.

@josh undergrad here, fedi mostly because it is FOSS, How to promote it? I think just getting people to easily sign up and letting them explore the vast space should do it, thats what has kept me here

@princeofhyrule ooopss- seems someone hasn't looked up that the store closures and market lockdowns have been completely fueled by the management of profit seeking corporations, not by any real crime statistic

From what I know on the conversation around xmpp, this is the central problem, and maybe its because my usage is biased as all the places I am in are mostly just places I found through discover, but it feels physically small, I keep running into rooms and its familiar faces, sure the world feels smaller metaphorically, but xmpp has this physicality for me I feel like Im just walking around in a really big house with a lot of rooms

@jacqueline solution that requires you to sell your soul to the devil and compromise on your morals, or implying you are SOL
