Plugged my synth back in. That’s a start.

@fred @metacosm ha ha it’s okay. 8u hasn’t had the benefit of lots of the improvements to this stuff that have landed in later versions. It seems pretty hard to convince the test suite not to fork one Java instance for each core I have. The trouble is I have a lot of cores

@fred @metacosm no I’d celebrate it if it happened to me ;) my current status: repeatedly OOM and hard locking my workstation trying to run jdk8u tier1 tests

@zhenech argh!

@zhenech oh cripes. Mine is still there, albeit I can only access it about 50% of the time

@mjr pretty similar! definitely got a cold but possibly compounding hay fever. getting stuff done though which feels good

@metacosm sorry to hear that :(

How's your friday going?

Got four out of 5 of the awkward screws out of my printer heat block. The last one could probably be cut if I can’t turn it. Assuming I’m sacrificing the heat block.

Now THIS I can get behind. I might take my iPod to the ice rink

New blog post: Digital gardening

Where I ponder the notion of a digital garden, versus a blog, and point at some recent changes I've made to my homepage which are not blog posts. #meta #web

OpenJDK’s build tools have an auto tuning feature for setting parallel jobs. It caps at 16. I’ve found this both too low for builds (I have 24 cores) and too high for tests (I have 32G RAM, and test instances of Java are configured with 512M of heap by default).

That said the build tooling around OpenJDK is really well thought out. I think my machines profile is just not the right “shape” for the defaults

Damn, I was trying out an iOS app that claims to be markdown editor with git support. But what it actually supports is only *github*.

@fraggle Tom Robinson still going strong tho. I bet our mutual is sick of that

Radio. 4 talking about John Dowland this evening. Always weird when tuning into that

For the last few years, I’ve been pondering whether I overthink things
