@drewdevault rpm and deb are battle-tested and will continue to be highly relevant. It is complicated and a lot of effort sometimes to create a good package, but at the end of the day it is rewarding. Because the users know they can trust it, it's high-quality and (often) the current version. Personally I'd rather see the efforts towards flatpak directed to create "proper" sandboxing for GUI applications. Flatpak isn't viable for compilers for instance. Just my 2 cents

Just got a few #rust packages accepted into debian. libshumate (needed for #Fractal and #Shortwave), a few others needed for magic-wormhole-rs and polyline, a dependency of #Railway. I'm honored to contribute to an ever-improving OS.

#Debian #Rust

@mirabilos well nextcloud-desktop can be installed without a keyservice, but it recommends either of the two and without any one has to re-type the password everytime when logging in. So not great, and even if I need elogind it shouldn't be an issue package-wise.

@mirabilos well I need sid for development

@mirabilos that's tge same with kwallet. They keyring needs elogind and libpam-elogind.

@mirabilos what I install is still my choice, nextcloud-desktop relies on gnome-keyring for instance and that depends on elogind. The OS should support that with openrc

@mirabilos haven't really tried that tbh but I'm pretty sure sway needs elogind functionality

Systemd rant
Great, now I can't used my new install because elogind in debian is too old and the newer systemd causes applications to be uninstallable. Pretty much every package that directly or reverse-depends on libsystemd0 can't be installed, including firefox. I believe users should have the choice to use the init they want but it's hard if that *isn't* possible in the first place.

Got saldo, a #GTK banking application packaged locally for #Debian. Still needs two python libraries accepted into the archive before that, though.
This'll be nice for users not wanting to rely on proprietary #Android apps.

@mirabilos @jesse that, hot buttered rum or coffee spice (also has nutmeg) are soo nice in wintertime

@rodsilva @fdroidorg neo-store has an indicator showing how many permissions an app needs and if there are any trackers in it. Imo that's pretty good.

@davidho there is no such thing as ground. It's merely a reference point. The PE line in buildings differs from one to another, too. Modern fuses don't actually blow (and they aren't literal fuses either), it's more like a super fast switch flipping to off.

Damn, those ladies do rock:

@silwol yeah, #Railway is awesome. Even better: my ICE was on time (:

LPT: take late ICE trains with few people in them so you can use most of the wifi bandwidth in order to develop efficently. Got two dependencies done for #Railway by @schmiddionmobile (so it'll hopefully land in #Debian soon™)

@ThePlant iirc you need to set Experimental = true in /etc/bluetooth/main.conf and then it's possible query the battery of bt devices. Fwiw, GNOME shell 44+ does display it automatically in the quick settings thing. Hope this helps.

Great, now I'm stuck in Frankfurt Central Station for an hour because of #DB shenanigans.
