Programmers: Mom, can we add logical expressions in Unix shells?
Mom: No, we have logical expressions at home.
Logical expressions at home: An executable named [ that pretends to be an operator.

I think a lot about bell hooks writing that the first act of violence society demands of men is to cut out their own softness:

"The first act of violence that patriarchy demands of males is not violence toward women. Instead patriarchy demands of all males that they engage in acts of psychic self-mutilation, that they kill off the emotional parts of themselves. If an individual is not successful in emotionally crippling himself, he can count on patriarchal men to enact rituals of power that will assault his self-esteem. "

Now featuring a shark, for some reason?

read something about someone using an LLM to write their own father's obituary and its just like.... genuinely die

in which the author of xfwl4, XFCE's Wayland implementation, tells us exactly how much his principles are worth https://www.spurint.org/journal/2026/07/llms-and-xfwl4

But here I am, with a Claude Max 5x subscription for the past year and a half. I’m not comfortable with it, but the utility is just too great for me to take a principled stance here. I like it, and I want it, so I’m using it. Maybe that’s morally questionable, or worse. But, as I said: here I am.

@anarchiv well, that might be, but the wider society is still pretty male-centric, in a way.

this rant was brought to you by the current debian-vote megathread.

"Is it bad if I use an LLM to even write one line of code as contribution to Debian?"

Yes it fucking is, and I am tired of explaining why.

@anarchiv thanks, I needed that. Positive masculinity is often hard, especially in a patriarchal society.

I have so many thoughts about being a man in this day and age and I think it's hard but one thing I'm experiencing with my old friends is that it's becoming more normal calling each other "brother" and saying "I love you" and honestly that means the world to me

And let me say it loud and clear, I'm not going to wait for World Men's Day or whatever the fuck it's called - dear men:

You are important. We need you. The new world we're trying to build desperately needs you. Your masculine qualities. Your strength. Your anger. Your passion.

You are not a problem. You are not a liability. You are not a second-rate human. If anyone tries to tell you that your masculinity makes you less valuable, destroy them. They are the enemy. You are beautiful. We are one.

Be here now, love your sisters and your brothers, fight the system, and your instincts will help set us free.

Also, just in case it needs to be said explicitly - trans men, welcome to our flock, I love you.

I fully recognize that the Torment Nexus harms the environment, artists, society at large and especially the babies being fed to it.

However, have you considered that it's very convenient actually and allows me to make CONTENT to CONSUME 2.7% faster.

Drink your water, you gitz.

You asked ai. Gross. I asked my neurodivergent friends online, and they are more accurate and use way less water. Mostly because they forget to drink it.

"Is that code llm-generated? If its llm-generated I dont want it."

Ma'am, that is 4 thousand lines of janked together reverse engineering tooling.

It has no deallocations, dependencies, or error checking.
It is an amalgamation of the code of several previous projects, stolen, hastily find-and-replaced, and ultimately inexorably joined in an unholy code obelisk.
God had no hand in the creation of this abhorrence.
This code was not written, it came to me in a manic episode.

This code is a written declaration of my contempt for the natural order.
The fact that this code exists proves that God is either impotent to alter her universe or ignorant to the horrors taking place in her kingdom.

Nice, my talks for #MRMCD were accepted.
