Sozialstaat verteidigen statt kaputtsparen!

Enshittification is the intentional degradation of products as companies shift focus from pleasing consumers to maximizing profits for shareholders.

The Norwegian Consumer Council hate enshittification and they're using humour to fight it.

I've warned before that any FOSS project incorporating AI output is doing so at their peril.

Previously people leaned on a federal circuit ruling that was *declined to be taken up by the supreme court* interpreting it as a free-for-all to LLM license-wash any project in translation, or really to incorporate any such materials and they would be public domain.

But that doesn't mean we have an answer! We've yet to see!

Annnnnnnnnd: I think we're likely to have that perspective upended soon.

The third circuit issued a recent ruling in the *opposite direction* of the previously well cited federal ruling, that AI training on copyrighted material is NOT fair use: https://www.courthousenews.com/ai-training-of-copyrighted-material-not-fair-use-third-circuit/

Annnnndddddd.... with a bunch of people trying to make LLM-generated decompilation replacements for Adobe's entire suite, we're likely to suddenly see corporations rear up angrily.

Just wait till someone tries to vibewash a Nintendo game decompilation. Hey, what do you think is gonna happen?

@icedquinn @phnt @navi you can generate symbols from CSV, and the footprints are mostly autogenerated too.

Michael Catanzaro believes that AI slop bug reports are a waste of time. Michael Catanzaro also believes that GNOME should force its maintainers to accept AI slop bug reports regardless of per-project policies on the matter.

That is an unserious position to take, and GNOME should not take it seriously.

Side by side: on left, a original pencil sketch of a little witch crying with a cat on her lap, one sketch research pre-Pepper&Carrot. On right; the same sketch AI colored and rendered by someone who sent me the AI 'finished' version derivation of it. One example of what I want to prohibit.

@cmconseils a very niche German meme

@navi @icedquinn there are so many degrees of freedom you have with a PCB that you must have a GUI IMO. I also prefer text-based interfaces, but use SolveSpace to do my 3D needs (also because I find OpenScads' diff function weird).
I really would like if KiCad were more flexible, but is still so far one of the best CAD programs I used so far.

I get that y'all refuse to acknowledge a certain word, so I'll just call it for what it is:

Man-hating

Raging at systemic oppression is reasonable, but doing something like broadly and casually calling for or cheering on the killing of men is super yikes, and is not helping your cause at all.

Get that toxic TLA/xenofemme bullshit the fuck outta here

Self-proclaimed feminists are poisoning the fuck out of the term, goodness.

i made EDK2 purple

yes. purple in your UEFI firmware

i did it because i believe in it

now all i need is purple grub (efi build instead of coreboot target). i added csmwrap (seabios fork) to edk2 in libreboot as well recently, gives you legacy bios

EFI GRUB is better supported upstream and will mean i can drop a bunch of drivers e.g. xHCI currently maintained out of tree. let GRUB piggyback off of EDK2. that stuff can still use my grub scripting and colud be made to still have e.g. CBFS support

next libreboot release will be EDK2-only, on most boards. users with existing linux installs or bsd installs can use seabios via EDK2 or GRUB via EDK2. this will all be in-flash, backwards compatible

EDK2 is just really, really nice, and i want it to be everywhere in libreboot.

https://codeberg.org/libreboot/lbmk/commit/04f96a888a2f9e52a7c721443bd9e00da47ffc0f
and it will all be purple

PS: also enabled native raminit and libgfxinit on haswell chromebooks. and libgfx on broadwell/kabylake/skylake chromebooks

now i just gotta make memtest86+ purple

edk2 made purple edk2 made purple edk2 made purple

I'm an electrical engineer with a very broad skillset looking to replace the "stable" part of my income after my contract with a private research foundation ended this month.

I'm seeking remote medium-to-long term contracts or salaried positions.

"After long hours of tears and sweat, we managed to open a desalination plant that provides a new source of clean water in Gaza. With God’s grace and your material support, we were able to do it.

This desalination plant will help us save costs on providing water and we will also provide our partner organizations with free water to distribute. Working in community is a key pillar of The Sameer Project. So this is not our success, this is the success of mutual aid groups in Gaza.

To operate the plant, we will need around $1,500 per day and we will be able to produce at least 150,000 liters of fresh water with that. The Sameer Project still needs your support to operate the desalination plant so please commit to a small amount monthly to sustain this important work.
