a series of images of the sun, more and more covered up by the moon. in the center is an image of totality, and on the right end the sun is still partially covered by the moon but it's setting behind mountains, and we can see their shadow in front

Hello Fedi,

recently someone posted a book that detailed how to build #floppies from scratch (including the ferrofluid etc.) I thought I had saved or boosted it, but apparently not. Unfortunately I can't remember the exact title, maybe @nina_kali_nina knows? In general the book was talking about magnetic storage, and was from the 80's (I think). Please boost.
EDIT:
Found it thanks to @vaporeon_ and @gloriouscow , it's "Magnetic Recording, Volume 1".

India has entered the chat against AI data centers!

AI data centers in India’s Visakhapatnam city face popular resistance - BT News

The Debian project started in 1993 and celebrates its birthday on August 16th of each year: Debian Day. This year we'll have at least 19 gatherings in 3 continents; c u there!

Is there a way to quit `less`, in linux, such that it leaves the current output on the screen. Like I `less` through a file, I find in the file an example of a command that I want to run. I quit. The screen blanks completely and now I'm back at a prompt, but the thing I need to type into the prompt is gone. On some systems `less` just leaves its current display up and scrolls up one line for the prompt. But not on this system. Why.

Also: Same question but vi.

EDIT: See answer in next post.
