2 hrs after voting closed, candidates received email from
Initiative Elections Team — it asks us to sign Board
Agreement (w/ DocuSign) by WED 2025-03-19 17:00 UTC. — “For your name to be considered by the
board as we compute & review the outcomes of… polls”.

*But*, said at orientation that only seated Directors, not candidates, must sign this agreement.

Can anyone explain why OSI
now asks both winning & losing candidates to sign this urgently? 🤔

Israel killed more than 400 people overnight as part of their genocide in Gaza. Absolutely disgusting.

First time I ever get a recall on a vehicle. Also, I'm surprised that anyone out there cares about the safety on a 19 year old car.

I guess since it's so life threatening, I should be thankful that my airbag hasn't killed me yet.
Notice about recall due to life threatening airbag problems.

@vkc I'm counting on it and ready to fight them. I'm not going to spend a single second making things more comfortable for those motherfuckers.

@bkuhn Eep this was from OSI!? Only saw this after my previous response lower in the thread. Well, I guess we all have our theories (and I think some hunches will be spot on)

@bkuhn @purpleidea @conservancy I'm stubborn like this too, and I'm often pleasantly surprised at how quick they go "ok, well then you can just do this then".

Many institutions are opportunistic in how they chip away at people's rights. People shouldn't give in so easily, there is still some choice.

@olasd @cwebber Sorry to crush your hopes, but there's no going back. It's only going to get more complicated from here on, and everyone needs to be aware and do whatever they can to prepare, resist and contribute wherever necessary.

Four hundred and nineteen Twitter accounts that posted on Brexit were localized to Russia’s Internet Research Agency… About a third of the discussion of Brexit on Twitter was generated by bots—and more than 90% of the bots tweeting political material were not located in the United Kingdom. Britons…had no idea at the time…that the bots were part of a Russian foreign policy to weaken their country. The margin of the vote was 52% for leaving and 48% for staying. … Brexit was a triumph for Russian foreign policy, and a sign that a cyber campaign directed from Moscow could change reality.

re: Grumbling about Nedbank
@confluency @Zumbador This happened every time I went to FNB. So I was on hold for an hour just glaring at the staff member. Then they moved the phones away to a cubicle like area so you can't glare at staff anymore for not being able to help you. So I just closed my FNB accounts and moved on.

@mntmn I wish I had the capital to help people for things like this!

Sending you love because wow what a shit show

@Lapizistik Activists should take a leaf out of Steve Biko's page. Go en mass to police stations and demand to be arrested, effectively DoS'ing the police system.

Even by Amazon standards, this is extraordinarily sleazy: from Mar 28, each Amazon Echo device will cease processing audio on-device and instead upload all the audio it captures to Amazon's cloud for processing, even if you have previously opted out of cloud-based processing:

Restructure the whole thing.

How can I in good conscience give even a $1 to an entity that has a budget in the hundreds of millions of free Google money that is run by executives whose salaries dwarf my own?

It seems like the browser is the business, but it's not the mission, or the focus.

Let the moneymaking entity fund the philanthropic endeavors.

It's amazing how your body adjusts to medication. My doctor put me on new blood pressure medication, which works great! And now my brain is like, "Ok! You can now get a lot angrier without popping a vein in your head, let's do this!"

If standing up for yourself burns a bridge, fuck that bridge.

I've now grown strawberries, pomegranate and now my first granadillas are emerging. I'm kind of impressed that it even survives because I never water it and there's a cactus next to it that is literally dying due to lack of water.
