Now planned arrival at 2:30 am in Frankfurt #GSMR

o. O. and now the GSM net broke

... and now racist / illegal border controls by the German police

@cibomahto 100℅, handwritten notes on register definitions /pinouts/ example circuits go a long way.

“Above is a fictional weather forecast for August 18, 2050, broadcast by French television in 2014, intended to warn against the disastrous consequences of global warming.

Below is the weather forecast for June 22, 2026.”

(By @jakubwiech on unmentionable)

This brings out super starkly how has accelerated so much more quickly than we thought even just 12 years ago.

Two photos of weather forecasts, showing maps of France, above one imagined in 2014 of a 2050 forecast of temperatures of high 30s, occasional 40-42, overall more orange; below actual forecast yesterday showing majority red and over 40s across France.

Of course we arrived way later than that, so now I am stuck at Paris Gare de Est waiting for the next TGV to Frankfurt leaving at 19:06.

So planned arrival is now 16:33, which means I still should be able to make, albeit it'll be close. But as seasoned Deutsche Bahn traveler very doable.

@disaster2life 40° C outside and 300 km/h here

@olasd right, that makes sense. In my uni physics class we actually calculated the contraction and expansion of train tracks at some point; given the extreme heat, this is not surprising.

@olasd o. O are they, really? Well, hoping for the best, thanks!

#interrail Day 5:
After spending yesterday exploring Bordeaux and having a breathtaking experience in Bassins des Lumieres, I am now on my way back. I'll be going to Paris where I need to change trains/railway stations, and from there back to Frankfurt. We left Bordeaux with a delay of 25 minutes, which I hope will be not be too much to miss my connection.
#CrossBorderRail

Really enyoing Bordeaux so far, but having to scan a QR Code to get the menu in a restaurant is just wrong. This assumes everyone has a phone; and this stops working once the internet is down. Another case of forced digitalisation.

Meme image of a person standing indoors wearing a white VR headset and holding VR controllers. Large white outlined text over the image reads:

The unspoken 8-step pipeline of "just buying a smart bulb"

1. Buy a $15 Wi-Fi bulb so you don't have to stand up to hit the switch.
2. Realize the proprietary app sucks. Install Home Assistant on an old Raspberry Pi.
3. The SD card corrupts. Buy a refurbished Dell enterprise server and install a Proxmox hypervisor.
4. You need secure remote access. Spend 14 hours configuring Cloudflare Tunnels and an Nginx reverse proxy.
5. Wi-Fi latency is unacceptable. Replace every switch in the house with Zigbee relays flashed with custom firmware.
6. Write a 400-line YAML script to fade the bathroom light on, but only if your phone's GPS is within 50 feet.
7. The MQTT broker runs out of memory while you are on a business trip.
8. Your partner sits in absolute darkness for three days because they don't know how to SSH into the Docker container to restart the lighting daemon.

Follow for more over-engineered tech trauma.

in case you thought I was making this up

There’s a shirt with a printed design that looks like a tabloid cover. The big headline reads “only transexual furry hackers can save us from the AI apocalypse” next to a drawing of a catgirl lounging while wearing a sports bra , short skirt, and striped leggings

A quote at the bottom reads “will peter thiel live to witness the horrors of his own creation? Or will he be torn limb from limb by the disposed masses? Find out soon…”

#Interrail Day 4: Took the regional Eusoktren Metro (with weird 1 m rail gauge); which took me to Hendaye, France. From there I borded a TGV to my next destination, Bordeaux. However, because a train further ahead broke down, I had to wait in Dax then.
Fortunately, I was able to take the regional TER then which got me to my destination. Currently resting from the scorcing heat outside (40 C)

@cccpresser hm, right. I fear there exists no better option. But nothing that can't be changed

@cccpresser only ever encountered that; and as alternative term, selfhosting.

#Interrail Day 3:
After arriving in Vallodolid again, I'll be travelling to San Sebastian today. This is just a slow regional train, so I'll be arriving quite late there.

I have very conflicting feelings about this :D

Wir sind so wütend, dass wir sogar einen Blog-Post geschrieben haben.
