@nuintari Sorry I don't mean to tell you you're holding it the wrong way, but I avoid ZFS on root on any system that doesn't have native kernel modules for it (like Debian, which I use pretty much everywhere), it just makes worst-case scenarios so much easier to deal with.

@Free_Press It was carefully planned and choreographed by professionals :)

@artfulrobot It hasn't needed that much RAM for a long time. If you use some features that are memory hungry (like dedup), then you need some amount of RAM for every TB of storage you have, but with modern versions of ZFS you can very comfortably run it with much less. Even dedup has been improved a lot in the last few releases of openzfs.

Please use open source systems whenever possible so you can review the source code. Encourage vendors you work with to stop keeping their software hidden so it can be audited.

Apple founder Steve Wozniak jumped into the Slashdot comments on his 75th birthday last year.

The reason that some successful people aren't billionaires is because they use their wealth to make the world a better place. "Success" isn't measured by the number in a checkbook.

Probably an unpopular opinion: If you need to run a system on real 32 bit hardware, NetBSD is probably a better choice than Linux.

@artemis Same with conservative people. Most of religious people use their religion as a signal of virtue, which is total BS.

@funhouseradio @AaronDavid @plzupgrademe Odd, I remember the title but not the actual game, will look it up again!

@wouter @purpleidea Heh I've had that argument with purpleidea before too. My crimping is also fine and I've never had issues with my own cables (I've probably crimped over a 1000 points so far). I actually have some cabling to do at home but it involves some boring work that I'm not in the mood for (like drilling etc).

Linux is running large advertising campaigns now in Berlin

A glowing digital display shows an error log from a system journal, listing multiple instances of "Failed to write entry" with details about byte sizes and item counts. The scene is set at night, with a visible city backdrop and foliage.

@juliank When you look at it closely and squint your eyes, you see a 3D debian logo!

@elle @manawyrm Nice DS9 poster too!

Spent a bit of time fighting dracut. Tomorrow I'll do the same but actually RTFM, which will hopefully help.

Debian Logo drawn with lights at UNL ATE hotel during DebConf26!

Enjoying some fine wine at the DebConf conference dinner.

Wondering why Pollito has been so quiet lately? Sadly, his reckless lifestyle of collecting DebConf name badges have been catching up with him. I can't say that I can't relate.

You can see a white house wall on which "if you don't like graffiti then just look away like you do for human suffering......" is written in green.

Noisy Hacklab at DebConf is quite lively today!

@kilroy_was_here been listening to it since I was 8 years old, an album you can still listen from start to end

"spherical bastard"

Yes, Swiss scientist Fritz Zwicky coined the term "dark matter" which is impressive, but he also coined the term "spherical bastard" to describe people who are bastards no matter which way you look at them, and I think that should be celebrated more.
