We spent the last 6 months polishing the experience, to make it more accessible and more user-friendly. Unlike the current tech industry, we go slow and fix things! (1/3)

Finally, this Braille display has arrived from the United States!

The goal is to get it working with and, eventually, provide a proper subsystem for Braille display devices on FreeBSD.

Another small step toward making FreeBSD more accessible. Learn more about the FreeBSD Foundation's Vision project: https://freebsdfoundation.org/project/vision-accessibility-subsystem-for-freebsd/

@rhonda Beautiful song and also rendition by Natalie, but did you know that it's a cover version?

pro tip: tell your boss the AI said you’ll be more efficient at home and see which one of their irrational beliefs wins out

@gumnos I just tried it, it even supports the undocumented ```rm -rd project/```

@bentsukun It appears that fun must be had, then.

@Jeremiah Urgh, the world is taking a hard turn for the worse. I wish there was something that could be done.

@canartuc urgh please don't link to medium

PSA: On big files, ripgrep (rg) is really significantly faster than grep, the hype is real!

I hope that the All Blacks realise that, what will be taken away in airplanes, will be compensated with by Vuvuzelas at the next match.

@RandamuMaki @debian Well, we just voted that AI isn't exempt from any standards already expected from Debian contributors, which includes technical quality, legal acceptability and suitability for inclusion in Debian, this already excludes a vast percentage of slop out there. If however, you expect Debian to drop upstream projects like Linux because it uses LLMs whatsoever (they've used AI in various forms for over a decade), then that's a huge ask.

@nuintari Sorry I don't mean to tell you you're holding it the wrong way, but I avoid ZFS on root on any system that doesn't have native kernel modules for it (like Debian, which I use pretty much everywhere), it just makes worst-case scenarios so much easier to deal with.

@Free_Press It was carefully planned and choreographed by professionals :)

@artfulrobot It hasn't needed that much RAM for a long time. If you use some features that are memory hungry (like dedup), then you need some amount of RAM for every TB of storage you have, but with modern versions of ZFS you can very comfortably run it with much less. Even dedup has been improved a lot in the last few releases of openzfs.

Please use open source systems whenever possible so you can review the source code. Encourage vendors you work with to stop keeping their software hidden so it can be audited.

Probably an unpopular opinion: If you need to run a system on real 32 bit hardware, NetBSD is probably a better choice than Linux.

@artemis Same with conservative people. Most of religious people use their religion as a signal of virtue, which is total BS.

@funhouseradio @AaronDavid @plzupgrademe Odd, I remember the title but not the actual game, will look it up again!

@wouter @purpleidea Heh I've had that argument with purpleidea before too. My crimping is also fine and I've never had issues with my own cables (I've probably crimped over a 1000 points so far). I actually have some cabling to do at home but it involves some boring work that I'm not in the mood for (like drilling etc).

@juliank When you look at it closely and squint your eyes, you see a 3D debian logo!
